Mapping Clarks: 5 ... 2020

Note: The Public Records Office, Northern Ireland ( PRONI) is an absolutley fabulous resource.

Free to use on line, is their "Historical Maps* tool.

It can be found on the PRONI website where all Northern Ireland locations can be traced back on historical maps up to 200 years old.

We have presented interconnected pages which, we hope demonstrate the development of Wm. Clark Ltd at Upperlands.

We hope that our commentary is useful, too, and welcome comment / additions.

The PRONI 2020 Colour Map

 Oh my! How colour helps!

Clearly on view, now are the Four dams, including the smallest Craig's dam beside the sluices.

The railway is disused with tracks lifted and only embankment giving its location away.

There is considerable housing development with several small estates, public and private on view.

Perhaps the most charming   feature now clearly visible are the little paths and tracks which connect various elements of the Clark business, residences etc.

Look closely to see how the big houses were so well connected via little tracks and paths to everything that was going on.

The original Clark's Bicycle, a converted butcher's bike, still in existence, travelled these tracks daily with orders, messages and the likes.

Elsewhere in the site our "Linen Love Story" features these tracks and that bike!
